Tennis players
are a competitive bunch and at the Genesee Volley Tennis Club we're no different.
We offer a whole range of competitive leagues, round-robin events, club
and open tournaments. Here are a few:
Doubles Leagues
The club offers Doubles
leagues throughout the season. The "Winter Warriors" League begins
when the court opens in early April and concludes the season in
November (and possibly December!) In between there are Spring, Summer
and Fall Leagues.
Players typically play one or more doubles match per week.
Matchings are sent out by e-mail every Sunday night based on your availability and ability.
Club Championships
The
first Genesee Valley Club Championships were held in 2009.
Winners were Mel Bauman in Mens's Singles, Heather Burke in Women's
Singles, Heather Burke and Dennis Canary in Mixed Doubles and Mel
Bauman and Rock Castor in Open Doubles. In 2010 Dave Missel pulled a
"hat trick" by winning the Mens Singles, the Mens Doubles (with partner
Gregg Hartvigsen) and the Mixed Doubles (with wife Carole)!
Other Tournaments
Three new Tournaments were introduced in 2010.
The "Double
Trouble" Open featured identical draws on both the Har-Tru and
Grass courts! The Club also sponsored Singles and Doubles
Tournament for local high school players. The Singles was played on the
lawn court with Doubles on clay. Finally a Member-Guest Doubles
Tournament was held on the clay. All of these tournaments are scheduled
